The Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union (BRSU) has announced its upcoming Early Childhood Screening Day, scheduled for Thursday, November 5, 2026. The event is designed as a fun, interactive, play-based assessment for young children to check key developmental milestones prior to kindergarten.

What Is Developmental Screening?

Described as an interactive "playdate," early childhood specialists will guide participating children through activities to assess growth and development across five key areas:

  • Speech & Language: Talking, listening, and expressing thoughts

  • Social & Emotional Learning: Making friends, understanding emotions, and cooperative play

  • Problem Solving: Exploring puzzles, patterns, and cause-and-effect concepts

  • Fine Motor Skills: Drawing, pinching, holding crayons, and building

  • Gross Motor Skills: Running, jumping, balancing, and physical play

The event offers parents valuable insights into their child's strengths and allows families to connect with early childhood professionals in a low-stress environment. Screening also helps identify children who may benefit from extra support before entering kindergarten.

. (Families with children currently enrolled in BRSU Pre-K programs can consult their teacher to determine if attendance is recommended
